A graduate of the University of Southern California School of Law, Morris Ankrum was an attorney and an economics professor before beginning his acting career. A veteran of many stage plays, Ankrum entered films in the 1930s and made many westerns, playing everything from Indian chiefs to crooked town bankers. He found his niche, however, in the 1950s in science-fiction films, where his gruff, no-nonsense demeanor and authoritarian voice were perfect for the role of the military officer helping scientists fight an outer-space menace, most memorably as Colonel Fielding in 1953's "Invaders from Mars." Toward the end of his career, Ankrum had a recurring role as a judge on the "Perry Mason" TV series. SgtSP@aol.com Trivia:
